PlasmaChem Solutions secures $305k to advance plasma reactor 800 533 I-Corps Hub: Interior Northeast

Dr. Yuguang Chris Li, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at University at Buffalo, founded PlasmaChem Solutions to commercialize a novel plasma-based method to more efficiently convert atmospheric nitrogen and water into ammonia. Ammonia is an essential fertilizer for food security and also has broad applications in industrial manufacturing, mining, chemical production, and defense. Dr. Li explored these industries’ challenges, supply chain uncertainties, and needs through I-Corps in 2024. That year, he applied those insights to secure a $305,000 Phase I STTR award from the NSF to advance development of the plasma reactor, with potential to boost supply chain resilience, agricultural productivity, and industrial competitiveness.
